My Review Stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for TRULY SWEET by Candis Terry with #excerpt + #giveaway

Welcome to my review stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for the final book in the Sweet, Texas series by Candis Terry. Yes, the series is coming to an end and it does with a truly happy ending for everyone in TRULY SWEET. Check out my thoughts on this one, an excerpt, and a giveaway!

***eARC provided by publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for TRULY SWEET:

Candis Terry returns to Sweet, Texas for the last time when former Marine Jake Wilder discovers how truly sweet love can be.

When the one you’ve always wanted…

At sixteen, Annabelle Morgan hoped her crush on Jake Wilder was just a passing phase. Now she’s twenty-nine and nothing has changed—except Jake. The once-carefree Marine has come home with a giant chip on his shoulder. He insists a single mom like Annie deserves more than he can offer. Yet no matter how gruff his gorgeous exterior may be, Jake’s toe-curling kisses convince her that this attraction is definitely mutual.

Becomes the one who wants you back…

Butting heads with feisty Annie was always a thrill. Add other body parts to the mix, and Jake is in serious trouble. He can’t be a forever-and-family guy—and Annie’s not a friends-with-benefits kind of woman. But love has a way of changing the best-laid plans, and surrender has never been so tempting…

The outcome is truly sweet.

My Review:

If you’ve been following this series then you’ve met Annie Morgan, younger sister of Abby who got her HEA with Jackson Wilder in SWEETEST MISTAKE and you’ve met Jake, the youngest Wilder hunk who made his first appearance in SOMETHING SWEETER. Jake is home finally, which makes the rest of the family very happy but not him. He’s not happy about it because he didn’t come home on his terms but because of an injury and is carrying a heap of guilt over the death of his men and most of all, his best friend. Right from the start, Annie realizes Jake is going to be a grump but his attraction to her cannot be ignored…even though he tries as much as she does. (You’ll see in the excerpt.)

I am very sorry to see the end of this series because I’ve come to care very much about the wonderful people of Sweet, Texas. I had also hoped for more of a climactic end to the series but then again, I wasn’t wholly disappointed. Everyone gets a happily-ever-after in the Wilder family including the adorable Miss Giddy…it seems she isn’t the only goat in town. If you read TRULY SWEET for no other reason, you must read it for Miss Giddy and some of the Wilder boys' banter over their mother, Jana, and her love life. Candis wrote it true.

Whereas, TRULY SWEET by Candis Terry might not be my favorite of the Sweet series – I think Reno in ANYTHING BUT SWEET still holds that honor – I wouldn’t have missed reading this final book for anything in the world. It’s the happily-ever-after that the Wilder family deserved. So with that said…I do highly recommend that if you’ve read the series then you’ve got to read TRULY SWEET, the final book of the Sweet, Texas series by Candis Terry because it will leave you with some laughs, a big smile and maybe some sad moisture in your eyes.

If you haven’t read this wonderful, sweet, heart touching series yet…please do…it really is the very best in small town romance. Happy Reading Everyone!

Excerpt:

“Forget something?” Her eyes narrowed just slightly and the silky blond ponytail hanging down her back swung to the side as she tilted her head in a way that suggested she was primed for a challenge.
“Not that I’m aware.”
“Uh-huh.” She tucked the stub of a standard yellow pencil behind her ear. “Guess you’ve been away too long to remember that most folks walk in here wearing a smile. Looks like you left yours at home.”
“Guess I’m just not much in the mood.”
“Seriously?” Her eyes narrowed a bit more, yet somehow a shower of silver sparks still managed to flash. “Why?”
He hated to use the word “Duh,” but it seemed so apropos.
“So . . .” Her shoulders lifted and dropped. “What? You’re going to let that walking cane snuff out the eternally grinning smartass that lives inside of you?”
Her comment hit its mark with stinging success.
Jake clenched his teeth and lowered his gaze to the laminated menu he’d been able to recite by heart since he’d been twelve. “Annabelle, how about you go away and give me a minute to look over the menu?”
“Because that would be a total waste of time, Jacob.”
His gaze jerked up again just as she shifted her weight to a position she probably intended as a show of obstinacy. Yet all it really managed to do was push her full breasts against that snug white Bud’s Diner T-shirt. Instinctively his gaze dropped lower to the little black skirt hugging nicely rounded hips and the pair of tanned shapely legs that ended with the sparkly blue sneakers on her feet. Liking what he saw, his gaze took that same slow ride back up her body.
When the hell had little Annie Morgan grown up and gotten so curvy?
“You can stare at that menu all day long,” she said through lips that were pink, plump, and glossy. Lips that looked like they needed to be kissed.
The unexpected and unwanted thought was like a splash of ice water in his face. Annie had been a pain in his backside for as long as he could remember. The last thing he should be doing was thinking about her damned mouth. Or her curvy body. To his dismay and against his commands, awareness tightened his body below the belt.
“In the end,” Annie continued, “you’re going to choose a double Diablo burger with extra peppers, a side of sweet potato fries—extra crispy, and a chocolate banana shake.”
Challenged, he leaned forward and met her glare. “How do you know what I want?”
“Because.” She planted her palm down on the table and leaned in till they were nearly nose-to-nose. “While you and your football buddies parked your cocky behinds in the booth by the door so all your minions could see you and come in to fawn all over you, some of us were slinging hash and cleaning up your mess after you left.”
He leaned back. “I don’t remember you working here.”
“Why would you?” She shifted her weight again and he’d have to be dead not to notice that somewhere between his last visit home and now Annie had become quite a knockout. “In those days you could barely see beyond Jessica Holt’s big brown eyes and bodacious ta-tas. I, Annie of the flat-as-a-surfboard chest and metal mouth, deterred your hormonal teenage boy scrutiny.”
She certainly wasn’t flat chested any more.
He could argue about the hormonal part, but why bother. In high school he’d been interested in three things; having fun, getting laid, and getting laid.
Some things were important enough to be counted twice.
“You make me sound like such a jackass.”
One corner of her luscious pink lips kicked upward. “You were.”
Yeah. He probably had been. And he wasn’t really sure he appreciated the reminder.
“So why are you working here now?” he asked, deftly changing the subject. “Didn’t you get enough slinging hash the first time around?”
“A girls got to earn a living somehow. Slinging hash is all I’ve ever really done. My hand-dipped chocolates haven’t exactly taken off like wildfire. And since Sweet’s street corners are already occupied with whiskey barrels and petunias, there isn’t any room for me to hang around waiting for customers.”
“Always the smartass,” he said.
“Takes one to know one.”

Review Stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for PERFECT TOUCH by Elizabeth Lowell with #excerpt + #giveaway

Welcome to my review stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for PERFECT TOUCH by Elizabeth Lowell, releasing everywhere tomorrow from William Morrow! I am such a huge fan of Ms. Lowell’s and yet just when I think she can’t outdo her last novel, she does. PERFECT TOUCH is a perfectly wonderful read. Stick around for an excerpt from this fab book and a tourwide giveaway too!

***eARC provided by publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for PERFECT TOUCH:

Sara Medina is a designer and art dealer from San Francisco. She matches her clients’ desires with fine and folk art from the world over—living up to her thriving business named Perfect Touch. She still remembers her rural childhood of hard work and poverty on the family dairy farm, but she keeps it firmly in the past as she searches out new artwork and artists that are on the breaking edge of acclaim. After she experienced the cultural riches San Francisco had to offer, she decided her life would be that of an urban career woman rather than a working mom commuting from the suburbs. With the intensive hours and travel required to grow her business to the next level, she has no time or energy left for romantic or family entanglements.

Jay Vermillion recently inherited Vermillion Sky, a ranch that nestles up to Wyoming’s Grand Teton Mountains—and the estates of the rich and restless. As a returned veteran of numerous deployments over the course of two wars, he finds himself wrestling with the demands of a ranch that has been left to run down during his father’s long illness. Between the urgent need to modernize and revitalize the Vermillion Sky, as well as an unexpected and vicious fight with his former stepmother over the custody of now-valuable paintings that were part of his father’s estate, Jay has no time for finding a wife and creating a sixth generation of Vermillions to ensure the family legacy continues.

When Jay hires Sara to appraise and market his father’s cache of paintings by Harris ‘Custer’ Armstrong, neither one expects the explosive results of their eventual meeting in Jackson, Wyoming. In addition to a mutually inconvenient attraction, they discover a double murder at the edge of the ranch lands and a potential betrayal even closer to home. All trails lead to Custer’s artworks as valuable enough to kill for, especially an unknown painted rumored to be called The Muse.

As Sara and Jay unravel the motive for the killings, they both discover that love, like murder, doesn’t wait for a convenient time. On the heels of that soul-shattering realization, Sara is targeted for murder. Suddenly, the war-weary soldier finds something he is once again willing to die for…

My Review:

Usually I recap a little but between the blurb and the excerpt, you’ll get the gist…and want to read this amazing story.

I love how Elizabeth Lowell always creates characters that capture our attention right from the start. Sara and Jay are two of a cast of characters that attract our attention from the first pages and keep our attention straight through to an action-packed, nail biting, edge of the seat finale that surprised me because I thought I knew who was the ‘bad guy’ and yet, I was caught off guard. Sign of a good suspense writer in my book.

PERFECT TOUCH is a romantic suspense, which could have been written at any place in contemporary times. Other than some mentions of technology and Jay’s being stationed in Afghanistan, the feel of this story could have been set at any time in the 20th Century as well as in the past fifteen years. I think it was one of the reasons I was so fascinated by it. A modern story, yet with a feel of the old west with on the trail action. With murder, mayhem, theft, helicopter attacks, a bit of PTSD, some steamy sex action, and a heroine who can ride as well as any man and isn’t afraid to use a weapon, PERFECT TOUCH by Elizabeth Lowell gave me everything I want in a romantic suspense and more. I didn’t want it to end.

I highly recommend PERFECT TOUCH by Elizabeth Lowell, just as I always recommend her stories…it’s romance at its best with a thrill ride included.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Excerpt:

Even as that irritated thought crossed her mind, she hesitated. The call could be from Jay Vermilion, the man who had dozens of fine art paintings that could kick her career up to the next level. Paintings with the potential to be so valuable that they’d been the part of a hotly contested divorce settlement for more than a decade.
Maybe, just maybe, she thought, one of those paintings is the fabled Muse, the only portrait painted by Custer.
That would explain why the legal battle had even outlived the original owner of the paintings, JD Vermilion. JD had passed away several months ago, and his much-younger ex-wife, Liza, was suing JD’s estate to gain access to the art her former husband had begun collecting before she’d even been a teenager in braces. With the passing of her ex, Liza had simply turned her lawyers loose on the primary heir to JD Vermilion’s estate—his son, Jay.
Sara’s mouth curved slightly as she continued walking. I’ve never met the infamous Liza Neumann, once Vermilion. But with possession being nine-tenths of the law, I’d put money on Captain Jay Vermilion keeping his ex-stepmother’s grasping hands off the undiscovered Armstrong “Custer” Harris paintings in the future, as well.
The retired army veteran who had recently inherited the family ranch—the fruit of generations of his Vermilion ancestors—had a grit and determination to him that came right through the phone line.
You haven’t even met the man, Sara reminded herself. She fished the cellular out of her tight front pocket at last, glanced at it, and saw the call had gone to voicemail. She palmed the phone and gave a mental shrug. It wasn’t a Wyoming number calling, which meant it wasn’t the Sheriff.
Or Jay, damn it.
Think of the good Captain like any other potential client who calls you during business hours to get advice on Western art, she told herself firmly.
Impossible.
Jay Vermilion might be a potential client, but he was also the man she had been talking to half the nights for the past few months. At first, it had been all business, but somehow the conversations had quickly evolved into … more.
I don’t know how I could talk about myself and my work and my dreams like that with someone I’ve never met. And he talked to me, too, about the ranch and weather and the Western woman he hoped to find and marry and beget the seventh generation of Vermilions.
We have such different lives and goals, it’s surprising we had so much to talk about in the first place.

Unwrapping a Cover Reveal for LUCAS, a Le Beau Brothers novel by V.A. Dold

LUCAS
A Le Beau Brothers novel
by V.A. Dold

coming soon

Krystal Le Beau hides a secret few know about: she is a psychic matchmaker. Little does Lucas know she’s worked her magic and set him up to meet his destiny.

Lucas Le Beau’s dream has come true. He owns a ranch of his own and he’s moving in. He thought he had everything he wanted...until the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen knocks him flat on his back. Now he can't think of anything but making that sweet redhead his own. Lucas is one determined wolf! He's not giving up on Kensie no matter how stubborn she is.

Kensie Brown is visiting her sister Jojo, and so far, she's managed to flatten the owner of the dude ranch, make Jojo mad, and somehow fall for a damn cowboy, knowing she's leaving in a few days. What was she thinking?

Will Kensie trust Lucas to save her when her life is threatened, and she has no one else to turn to?

Will Lucas get to Kensie in time to stop the man who wants to expose her to the world and destroy her?

Mix one stubborn Yankee workaholic, a determined cowboy wolf shifter, and meddling family, stir well and you have the recipe for a wild Texas ride.

Excerpt:

It became glaringly obvious very quickly; men found her intimidating. She was too smart, too successful, too rich, too fat, and way too outspoken. Kensie never saw a reason to mince words, so she said it like it was. Apparently, people, especially men, didn’t care for that. Too flippin' bad, she was too old to change now.
A quick look around told her the barn was behind the incredible house she parked in front of. From where she stood, all she could see was a huge hipped roof. That had to be where Jojo was. She estimated the shortest path was around the attached four-car garage. Straightening her sunglasses, she headed toward the corner with determined purpose. The sooner she located Jojo, the sooner she could get into air conditioning.
Distracted by the beautiful landscape, Kensie didn’t watch where she was going. She rounded the corner of the garage and ran smack dab into a solid wall. What the devil was that doing there? Wait, that wasn’t a wall – what the heck was that?
One second she turned a corner and the next she somehow slammed into what felt like a brick wall, which had no business being there. No. Not a wall, a solid, very masculine, man. A gigantic Minnesota oak of a man, who was going down hard, and regrettably, taking her with him. As much as she wanted to change her fate, there was no way to stop what was about to happen. For a split second she considered yelling timber. She was screwed, and unless her calculations were terribly off, she was doomed to land in a very awkward position.
After what felt like a lifetime, the manly oak hit the ground hard, with her splayed across him in a very unladylike, very sexual, way.
Good lord! I killed him! “Shiznit!”

Unwrapping the Kiss - Is a Kiss Just a Kiss or Is it Much More?

The final book in the Vamp City series by Pamela Palmer has finally released. OF BLOOD AND PASSION is an exciting, action-packed, thrilling, edge of the seat nail-biter but oh, has it some great kissing too. If you haven’t read this series yet…do…it’s amazing!

When I think of a kiss though, I’m reminded of one of my favorite songs…As Time Goes By, originally written for the 1931 Broadway musical EVERYBODY’S WELCOME by Herman Hupfeld, but made famous in CASABLANCA when sung by Dooley Wilson. Just as Ilsa can’t forget that song, she can’t forget the kisses she shared with Rick…but is a kiss just a kiss, or is it more?

There are so many types of kisses to be shared—sweet kisses between a parent and child, friendly kisses between friends, and those sweet, inviting, tender, yet hesitant kisses between lovers, which can turn into turbulent, fiery, passionate, and enthralling experiences of which love songs, and romance novels are written.

So when you and your lover come together as one, lips teasing, and caressing before becoming locked together, tongues entwined, and then your bodies eventually wrapping around each other in rapture…time melts away. Passion flares, and the more you kiss, the more the passion builds.

Wow, that’s some mighty fine kissing…right? Have you ever wondered why it is we kiss?

When reading a good romance there’s nothing more inviting, scintillating, and teasing to our imaginations than a good first kiss, a breath-stealing seduction kiss, or a farewell kiss making our hearts ache with desperation.

Well, I was fascinated to learn that women and men kiss for different reasons…at least scientifically. It seems a woman kisses a man so she might collect information about him as a possible mate and a man kisses a woman…well, he does it to woo her into his bed. Why doesn’t that surprise us, ladies?

Kissing has special effects on the brain as it stimulates all the senses. A kiss allows us to see, smell, taste, hear, and of course, feel our partner.
She kisses him to collect information and he kisses her to seduce her.
Both sexes kiss to become emotionally closer. It seems our lips have a large number of neurons, which pick up even the slightest of messages. When our lips touch and take in all this amazing information, five of the twelve cranial nerves then escort these intense sensations to the brain by way of the spinal cord, brain stem, and thalamus to the somatosensory cortex
Perhaps that’s why a really hot kiss can send shivers down our spines, eh? Amazingly enough, a vast majority of this brain region is devoted to processing sensations from around the nose and mouth, which gives our lips and tongue their exquisite sensitivity.

Kissing affects more than just our senses though, it also boosts our blood pressure and increases our pulse rate. It dilates our pupils, deepens our breathing, and raises levels of oxytocin in our brains which is the chemical associated with attachment, trust, and bonding. But kissing also lowers the levels of cortisol in our bodies which reduces stress. So kissing not only brings us pleasure, enables trust, and creates attachment, but it also relaxes us.

Sounds good to me!

Kissing can and will create an emotional bond for both sexes. But what a woman collects from kissing a man goes far beyond sight, smell, taste, and touch, she also obtains essential data about certain genes in the immune system and by using this information can decide subconsciously whether or not a man will make a good mate. Wild, huh?

Perhaps that’s the reason so many women say that a first kiss tells it all.

So what about a man? What is behind his wanting to kiss?
Well, he collects a bit of information too…it seems the scent of a woman’s breath can tell him about her fertility. Isn’t biology grand? But the main reason for him kissing a woman still lays grounded in his desire to seduce her. It seems men prefer wetter kisses because his saliva is loaded with testosterone and by transferring it to a woman, he can create a sexual craving in her. The sloppier the kiss, the more testosterone the man transmits and in turn, the more she’ll desire sex with him.

Nature sure does make it hard for us to say no, doesn’t it?

In the end though, both agree that a good kiss brings a man and woman emotionally closer together. A good, tender, passionate, sensual, and sensitive kiss can lead both to decide each might be a suitable partner, spouse, and co-parent. On the flipside, a bad first kiss can kill a possible relationship faster than poison—a very good reason not to eat garlic and onions on a first date. Like I said…it’s all about that first kiss.

Over ninety percent of people around the world kiss but even in cultures where men and women find kissing disgusting, lovers instead lick, rub, suck, nip and blow on each other’s faces prior to making love. Nearly all kinds of other creatures kiss too, or caress around the mouth. Bonobos, our closest chimp relatives, kiss with a deep tongue kiss. Dogs lick. Moles rub noses. Elephants put their trunks into one another’s mouths. Albatross tap their bills together. So throughout nature, kissing is natural but in the end, a kiss can be the start of something wonderful. So perhaps a kiss isn't just a kiss but wonderfully, so much more...

“The kiss started out tender, a caress, a promise, before slowly catching fire. Within moments, his mouth was plundering hers, and hers his, flames bursting to life all down the length of her body and deep, deep inside. Her breath grew ragged, her flesh burning as his lips trailed across her cheek, and down to the base of her neck.”
–OF BLOOD AND PASSION by Pamela Palmer

See what I mean?

Happy Reading Everyone!

A HARD INK SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM AUTHOR LAURA KAYE + #Giveaways

Print

From the author of the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Hard Ink Series, comes a special announcement sure to excite readers everywhere! Don't miss what Laura Kaye has to say...
A Hard Ink Special Announcement from Laura Kaye!

As I celebrate the release last week of HARD TO LET GO, the finale in my Hard Ink romantic suspense series, I’m super excited to share some more news about Hard Ink!
I’m going to do another book in this series. And not just any book. I’m going to write a wedding novella for one of the couples in the series!! And I’m so flippin’ excited!!!

This is how the idea came about:
I happened to see another author celebrating the release of a follow-up wedding book, and I’ve never written any follow-up stories about any of my characters—once they’ve gotten their happily ever afters in their original story, I just moved right on to the next couple. But that author’s book got me thinking about who I would even do a follow-up story on.
Who is it that would get married? My initial thoughts went right to the Hard Ink series, of course, because I’ve been immersed in this world for the past two years and absolutely adore these characters.
Seriously – I know many of us have joked about the title of the last book being apropos, and trust me when I say I’m feeling that, too. I want more Hard Ink myself. And then I had to ask – which couple? My gut instinct was to say Nick and Becca. They started the series, have been together the longest, and the personal issues they each have and struggles they each face are less than some of the other characters. BUT… But then my brain started to think about all the other couples. And as I thought through all of them, I could make a case why any of the Hard Ink couples might be the first to get married.

And that’s where YOU come in.
I can’t decide which couple to write.

I could make the argument for Nick and Becca for all the reasons above. I could make the argument that Shane would be eager to take care of Sara in every way he can. I could make the argument that Easy and Jenna’s bond would be so tight because of the hell Easy’s come through and him having saved Jenna’s life. Marz has never wanted anything more than a family, so I could see him being eager to make Emilie his forever. Jeremy and Charlie had the bond of best friends before becoming lovers, and I could see the two of them wanting to prove the depth of their love by committing to forever. And Kat so knocked Beckett on his ass that I could see him wanting to hold her tight and, well, never let go – and finally have a family that valued him.

So, yeah, I can’t decide!
Which means you guys get to.
For real.
I’m letting you pick.
