Unwrapping a Review of THE UNFORGIVEN: ATHOS, a By the Sword novel by Michele Hauf + #Giveaway

When I was a little girl, I read THE THREE MUSKETEERS by Alexander Dumas and fell in love with these amazing men whose loyalty to their king, and each other, came before anyone, even the women they loved. When I was asked to read and review THE UNFORGIVEN: ATHOS by Michele Hauf, the first in her By the Sword series, I leaped at it because Athos was my favorite of the Musketeers. I was not disappointed.

***eARC provided by author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for THE UNFORGIVEN: ATHOS:

He is the law. And she is the outlaw…

Musketeer Arnaud de Sillègue d’Athos is ready to bid adieu to the King’s Guard and to lay down his sword. Yet he’s been charged with one final mission—to apprehend a dangerous enemy of the king, the Belle Dame Sans Merci. Despite his desire to apprehend a woman who causes such destruction, Athos refuses…until he sees a sketch of her. It’s the same villainess with whom he had been locked in a passionate, sensual moment.
Emmanuelle Vazet never gives up control, even if briefly, in the arms of a blue-eyed stranger, she felt the need to give in and let desire take over. But now circumstances have placed her at the scene of a murder. Her reputation—and a ridiculous name— has preceded her, even if she is innocent. Now her nameless lover is the enemy. A royalist. A musketeer who could be her undoing…unless she becomes his undoing first.

~*~         ~*~           ~*~           ~*~           ~*~

Musketeer Arnaud d’Athos is tired and ready to muster out of service as a King’s Musketeer. Having served his King for over ten years, he wants to retire. Just as he’s ready to leave, the most amazing and alluring woman crosses his path, seduces him, and disappears into the night. Normally, Athos would shrug it off but this woman refused to give him the one thing he wanted more than anything from her – her control.

Emmanuelle, known as la Belle Dame sans Merci, is dangerous and powerful. She’s refuses to bend to the will of any man when it comes to her heart or her body but when she meets a charming stranger who intrigues her beyond all others, she wonders if, for once, she can surrender herself.

When Athos discovers his mysterious dark angel is the same woman now accused of murder, and it’s his responsibility to bring her to justice, he wonders if he can he fulfill his mission without losing his heart to her.

THE UNFORGIVEN: ATHOS by Michele Hauf is an amazing story with all the adventure, intrigue, and charm originally created by Alexander Dumas with added heat. The characters are rich and unforgettable. Emmanuelle is a wounded woman whose innocence was corrupted by an evil man so he might achieve his own goals. Trust is not something she gives up easily and Athos fast discovers she is a formidable adversary in both love and combat.

It’s difficult to know who to trust in this amazing story for the all of the characters seem to have their own secrets and treacherous mystique. Emmanuelle is one of the strongest female characters I’ve met in a long time. She’s powerful, mysterious, forthright, and vulnerable all at the same time. She is the story and Athos is her perfect match.

I highly recommend THE UNFORGIVEN: ATHOS by Michele Hauf to anyone who loves a good adventure filled with amazing characters, intrigue, mistrust, loyalty, and enough steam to melt your ereader. This is by far the sexiest Musketeer story I’ve ever encountered. Michele has created rich, formidable characters, both main and secondary, which will carry over in whatever direction she takes this series. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Review Stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for BROKEN by Cynthia Eden + #Giveaway

Welcome to my review stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for BROKEN, book one in the Lost series by Cynthia Eden. I love a good suspense and Cynthia gives it to us in abundance. Get ready for an amazing ride! BROKEN is coming on March 31, 2015, and you’ve the chance to win a print copy. Lucky you!

***eARC provided by publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for BROKEN:

The first novel in New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden's sizzling LOST series introduces the Last Option Search Team, an elite unit that must protect the only surviving victim of a serial killer.

Ex-SEAL and LOST founder Gabe Spencer is accustomed to the unusual in his job. But when knockout Eve Gray steps into his office, he's rattled. For the mysterious woman is a dead ringer for the heiress thought to be the latest prey of the serial killer who goes by the name Lady Killer.

When Eve awoke in an Atlanta hospital, her past was a blank slate. Then she recognized her own face in the newspaper and vowed to learn the truth. Determined to confront the nightmares hidden in her mind, she never expects to find a partner in Gabe.

As Gabe and Eve work together, their explosive attraction becomes irresistible. Gabe knows that his desire for Eve is growing too strong, bordering on a dangerous obsession, but nothing pulls him away from her. And when another Eve lookalike disappears, Gabe vows to protect Eve at all costs. While Eve may have forgotten the killer in her past, it's clear he hasn't forgotten her.

~*~          ~*~          ~*~          ~*~         ~*~

Imagine waking injured, cut, and broken in a hospital and not remembering anything at all—not your name, where you’re from, or worse, where you’re going. That’s what’s happened to Eve Gray. When she begins to suspect she’s somehow one of the missing victims of the Lady Killer, a serial killer whose many victims’ bodies recently washed ashore on Dauphin Island after a hurricane, she seeks help from LOST. The Last Option Search Team founded by a man she finds herself putting her trust in even as she’s feared trusting anyone else since awakening in a hospital in Atlanta, but there’s something different about Gabe... She’s lost and needs help finding out who she really is and what happened. Is it possible she is actually Jessica Montgomery and a victim of the Lady Killer? And if she is, was she still in the killer’s crosshairs?

Gabe Spencer is an ex-SEAL who, after failing to save his sister when she was kidnapped and murdered, has dedicated his skills and his life to finding those lost and in need of being found by those who love them. He hadn’t expected a beautiful woman with no past and no money to come asking him to help find her, or rather who she was and how she came to be lost. Unable to turn her away, he takes on the mission to unravel her past, solve a multitude of crimes, and get the answers they both need to move forward. The fact that he needs to keep reminding himself she’s just a client complicates things even more when his protective instincts kick in and he becomes determined to not let anyone harm Eve again, including himself.

I was glued to the pages of this book from the Prologue on. Cynthia Eden has created the best kind of suspense in BROKEN, her first book in the Lost series and I will definitely be back to read more in this series. She wove two mysteries into this story, the first being whether or not Eve Gray is in fact the wealthy Jessica Montgomery, and the second being the question of who the Lady Killer is and is he still after her. I am usually very good at figuring out who the bad guy is long before the reveal, but Cynthia kept me guessing. I’d think it was this person, and then I’d change my mind and think it’s another. I was kept guessing all the way to the reveal and even then, when I thought, okay, I was right…I knew I’d still been hoodwinked right up to that moment.

Brava, Cynthia! And no, I’m not going to tell you anything more.

BROKEN by Cynthia Eden is an exceptional romantic suspense with a cast of characters you will love, and a few you will despise but that’s exactly how it should be. This is a fabulous lead off book to a series, which promises lots of suspense, action, friendships, and romance. I think one of the things I loved most about the characters in BROKEN is that those searching for the lost are as equally lost themselves. The members of LOST are highly skilled, intelligent, and yet, highly broken people. Eve is not the only one who is broken and needs to be found. Gabe travels a journey with Eve/Jessica, which brings him some much needed closure and redeemed self-confidence.

I highly recommend BROKEN, book one in the Lost series by Cynthia Eden to anyone who loves a good story told in excellent fashion and a good whodunit which will definitely keep you guessing. I dare you to figure it out before the reveal.

Unwrapping a Review of GET LUCKY, an anthology of 6 wonderful Irish Themed Romances

I wish to thank the lovely authors of the GET LUCKY Anthology for allowing me to read an ARC of this delight group of stories in exchange for honest and unscripted reviews. Happy Release Day!

What happens when six romance authors get together and write half a dozen brand-new, steamy, Irish-themed novellas? Everyone gets lucky! This 99-cent box set crosses genres and includes contemporary romance, new adult romance and paranormal romance novellas that will give Get Lucky a whole new meaning.

The GET LUCKY Anthology features:

WALKING THE LINE by Nicola Marsh

Finn Ahearn’s Irish luck is about to run out…
Reformed Aussie bad girl Ellie is a decade older than Finn but that doesn’t stop the charming Irishman from wooing her. Ellie doesn’t believe in the happily-ever-after dream any longer, not since hers imploded a long time ago. But can a smooth-talking Irishman sway a hard-hearted cynic to believe in love again?

My Review:
This story is set in Australia, but Finn is from Ireland and fresh off the boat. He doesn’t have the luck of the Irish it seems. After convincing Ellie to hire him, he begins to desire her but she’s not having any of it. Older and not a believer in true love, she proves to be a tough nut to crack. Will Finn be able to charm his way through her tough shell?
Perhaps not my favorite, but Finn is definitely charming and Ellie is easy to relate to, and like very much.

AMAZED BY YOU by Kelsey Browning

Falling again for your first love...this time for keeps.
Author’s assistant Olivia McLaughlin must pull off an extravagant St. Patrick’s Day garden party to win a coveted promotion, but her success hinges on landscape designer Cody Kavanaugh, her old high school boyfriend. Now, Olivia must decide which she can’t live without—the job that will make her a success or the man offering her a second chance at love.

My Review:
A St. Patrick’s Day story. Olivia is determined to prove her worth as the best assistant ever to her author boss by throwing a fabulous St. Paddy’s Day garden party. She hires an old boyfriend, Cody, to design and create the special landscaping to pull off the best party ever and win her a promotion. What if a second chance at love is an option, can she still be successful at her job?
This one was fun, and I have to say that Cody can come work my garden whenever he wants to…shirt off preferably.

ONE LITTLE KISS by Robin Covington

The best things start with one little kiss.
Trapped by a snowstorm in the same place at the same time, Leighton and Jonas must decide if their hot night together was the end of their story or if they started forever with just one little kiss…

My Review:
Another St. Paddy’s Day story. Stuck at the airport during a snowstorm on the way to the Celtic Music Festival, Jonas does a friend a favor and attempts to rescue his buddy's sister. The same sister he’s very attracted to and has a past with, Leighton. Still very attracted to each other and both having reasons why things won’t work between them, they end up spending the night together. Can they get past those reasons and admit their feelings for each other?
I thoroughly enjoyed this couple. I wished it could be longer. I think there’s more story here.

BIG, BAD RED by Avery Flynn

She always gets her wolf...
There’s nothing little or naive about this Red Riding Hood. Red runs the biggest fencing operation for fairytale treasures out of the back of Granny’s Pub. But when she comes into possession of the Caladbolg sword things get hairy–as in hot, sexy Liam MacTíre the werewolf hairy.

My Review:
This one is set in an Irish Pub in New York and is a very different take on the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. Liam MacTíre is a werewolf. Red is a bar owner who runs a fencing operation on the side. She fences things like magic carpets, glass slippers, and special swords. Liam needs to find a very special sword or he will be a wolf forever. Can love be a greater spell breaker?
I loved this one. Liam is devilishly wolfish, and Red, although tough as nails, she’s a perfect feminine match for Liam. I’d love to see this one in a full-length story.

LUCK OF THE IRISH by Sara Humphreys

A leprechaun is powerless without his gold….
Banished to the mirrored realm for hundreds of years, Declan Aherne had nothing but time to plot his revenge and mourn the loss of his beloved wife. But when a beautiful human woman, with a familiar amulet, stares into the mirror...Declan's luck was about to change.

My Review:
Declan is a leprechaun fae who is banished into a magic mirror because he fell in love with a witch and married her. A century later, Maggie finds the mirror and remembers a story her aunt told her about a man cursed into a mirror. With her help, Declan is freed from the mirrored realm and despite his desire for revenge, his luck takes a magical turn for the better.
This one is so good but be forewarned, it ends as all cliffhangers should…“Your adventure has begun.” I’m definitely going to have to read what comes next for Maggie and Declan.

SOMETHING BORROWED by Kimberly Kincaid

Her best friend is the best man for the job…
When her successful brother announces his plans for an impromptu wedding in Ireland, unlucky-in-love chef Sasha Arrington is stuck between the Blarney Stone and a hard place. Sasha needs a wingman for her brother’s wedding, and the romantic destination could be just what James Sullivan needs to tempt Sasha out of the friend zone.

My Review:
This one is set in Ireland, and Sasha needs a date to her brother’s wedding. Her coworker volunteers to be her date, but he hopes to use their time together to get out of the friend zone. Sasha has issues regarding love and marriage because of her parents so James has his work cut out for him. Can he convince her to take a chance on him, and on love?
A destination wedding, parents from hell, a sexy guy who can cook too, and a gal who would rather have her hair burned off than fall in love means another great story from Kimberly. Sully, that’s James Sullivan, is Kincaid hot perfection and Sasha is stubborn, but he’s definitely charming enough to make even the toughest case melt like smooth chocolate. Loved this one.

Happy Reading Everyone! Go get your copy of the GET LUCKY anthology!

Cover Reveal for HEART'S DESIRE, a Healing Hart novel by T. J. Kine + #Excerpt

HEART’S DESIRE
The Healing Harts Series
by T. J. Kline

coming April 28, 2015 from Avon Impulse

About The Healing Hart Series:

The Healing Harts series came to me one night as I was just falling asleep. It jerked me awake, making me sit up in bed. It was one of those ideas that came completely formulated, an entire series, like a lightning bolt to the brain, and I haven’t been able to shake loose of it until it was written down. A family, rocked by loss, each member with a desire to help others in their own way.
In the first book, Heart’s Desire, Jessie is faced with running the family dude ranch alone after her parent’s unexpected death. Unbeknownst to her siblings, she and her father were transitioning the ranch to an abused horse rescue facility but she’s floundering to keep it afloat and bankruptcy is looming. Her brother, Justin, decides it’s time to call his college buddy, Nathan Kerrington, for help – the same man who shattered her heart eight years earlier.
Nathan Kerrington knows he hurt Jessie but he had a good reason for it. Now he just has to prove that to her and regain her trust. But, as old hurts rise to the surface, they must resolve their past before they can attempt to save her future and some hurts aren’t easily forgiven.

Choosing the cover for HEART’S DESIRE:

When we started looking for covers for Jessie and Nathan’s story, I had a very clear picture in my mind. I knew exactly what my characters look like and the feel I wanted for the series as a whole. We had also decided very early to go with only the main characters on these books. I also knew that while all three books should tie together, I wanted Jet, one of Jessie’s horses, on the cover somewhere. He plays an important part in discovering herself at different points in the story.
But Jessie is such a strong, independent character, she fought me at every step, whether it was in the first draft or the final cover. We went through several pictures and many would have worked with the mood of the book but there was always something that didn’t suit Jessie’s personality. Again, Jessie was determined to have her own way.
In the end, she chose her own photo. As soon as I saw it, I knew this was Jessie and there was no need to look further for a cover photo. This cover portrays Jessie’s character better than words – pensive, wistful and ambitious. The fact that Jet was able to be part of this cover was the icing on the cake for me.

EXCERPT FOR HEART’S DESIRE:

"I came to apologize, Jess. I shouldn't have said those things."
She ignored the way her nickname slid easily from his lips or the way it made her heart trip over her ribs and start fluttering like a baby bird learning to take flight. She'd quit buying into romantic notions a long time ago thanks to him. Now, if only she could convince her body to let them go. She set the rake against the wall and walked into the aisle way.
"It's Jessie. Jessie. We are not friends, remember?"
His green eyes flashed, the golden flecks lighting them from within, and she saw frustration in the set of his jaw. "No?"
"No. Let's keep our roles in perspective. You're the financial genius here to do a favor for my brother, and I'm just his idiot little sister who bought your load of crap years ago and can't manage to keep this ranch afloat now."
His long strides ate the distance between them in seconds but she stood her ground, staring up at him, daring him to argue. His lips were tight, set in a grim line and a deep crease lined his perfect brow. She wanted to back away, but years of working with her father wouldn't allow her to show any signs of intimidation. Cowgirl up, she recited the mantra in her head, although not nearly as confidently as she usually did.
"Don't do that," he ordered, staring down into her eyes, his voice quiet but insistent.
She could feel the heat emanating from him as sparks of desires burst in her chest, sending shivers over her skin. She tried to control it, to stop herself from trembling at his nearness but she couldn't stop her breath from catching in her throat. "Don't do what?" Her voice was a hoarse whisper.
"Don't belittle yourself. You are far more than that. You've always been more than that to me." His hands grasped her upper arms and he dipped his head toward her, his eyes never leaving hers. "You're a talented, kind, giving, passionate woman."
It wasn't what Jessie expected. His words were a balm to her chapped and aching heart, exactly what she needed to hear, but she knew she couldn't let him break past her walls. Who knew what damage he could cause her heart when he left again. She'd barely managed to piece together the shards last time. She pressed her hands against his chest, intending to push him away from her, but he gently circled her wrists with his fingers. Their eyes locked and she refused to be the first to look away.
"Nathan." She meant for it to be a warning but it came out sounding more like a plea.
"What, Jess?"
He placed his palms over the back of her hands and twined his fingers between hers. His touch made her weak and she felt a wave of need break over her, threatening to drown her. She'd been so in love with him, and it had left a gaping hole in her, one she’d never managed to fill, not even with her work.
Nathan walked her backward until she felt the stall behind her. With the hard wall of his body pressing against the front of her, pinning their hands between them, there was nowhere for her to escape the explosion of yearning that began in the middle of her chest, spreading outward, heating her and leaving her breathless. Every inhalation filled her with the scent of his expensive cologne, reminding her again how out of place he was. He didn't belong here. But seeing the desire in his eyes, feeling it in every inch of him pressing up against her, made Jessie want to wrap her legs around his waist and let him take her right here in the barn.
She couldn't possibly feel this way about him again. She couldn’t imagine feeling any other way about him. She needed this man. Not just wanted him, needed him, and that scared the crap out of her.
He was going to kiss her, and she was going to melt under his touch. There was no doubt in her mind. If that happened, she was a goner. Because, for her, this wasn't about sex, this was about how Nathan made her feel, how he'd always made her feel - understood and validated and worthy. The only other time Jessie felt that way was when she worked with her horses.
How had this man recognized the weakness in her, buried deeply, and unearthed it so easily? Panic set in. She had to protect herself. She couldn't let Nathan in, couldn't let him get close again. She shoved against his hands, using her body to knock him off balance, backward against the handles of the wheelbarrow and into the bucket.
"You can finish the stalls."
She ran out of the barn, refusing to look back at the man trying to piece together a full sentence from where he landed, inside a wheelbarrow full of fresh horse manure.

Unwrapping a Review of THE SCOUNDREL'S LOVER, a Notorious Flynns novel by Jess Michaels

As if Jess Michaels’s books weren’t hot enough when she was publishing traditionally, now that she’s publishing what she wants, she’s setting erotic historical romance on fire. As usual, there’s no need to worry about being disappointed with THE SCOUNDREL’S LOVER, book two in the Notorious Flynns series. It’s such a good read!

***eARC provided by author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for THE SCOUNDREL’S LOVER:

Annabelle Flynn is the sister of London’s two biggest libertines, and her reaction has been to become the picture of purity. But the sensual nature of her family has not been lost on her and she is troubled by urges she dare not follow. She ignores the demands of her body and instead throws herself into two different activities. One is pursuing a proper marriage in Society and the other is trying to save her broken brother by following him into the shocking Donville Masquerade, part of a hell run by the mysterious Marcus Rivers.

By day, Annabelle pursues ladylike endeavors and seeks a staid husband to combat the wild reputations of her brothers. By night, she inserts herself into Marcus’s business… and eventually she finds herself seduced into his bed.

But can a not-quite-proper lady and an entirely unsuitable cad find anything in common outside of the bedroom? And will Annabelle be willing to trade passion for cold, calculated ‘perfection’?

~*~                 ~*~                   ~*~                 ~*~                 ~*~

When her brother, Crispin, goes beyond trouble at the notorious vice club owned by the family’s friend, Marcus Rivers, it’s Annabelle Flynn, who goes to his rescue or so she thinks. Having always wanted to distance herself from the Notorious Flynn brothers, she now finds herself drawn to a man who should have her running in the opposite direction and most certainly, not toward his bed. Perhaps she’s not as different from her brothers as she thought.

Marcus Rivers cares about the Flynn family, and especially cares about the beautiful Annabelle. He knows her brothers would have his head if they knew how he desired her and how he eventually seduces her, but he can’t resist her and although he knows she wants a stable and sensible husband, not a notorious and unsuitable one like him, he isn’t willing to let her trade passion for mundane without pleading his case.

Jess Michaels outdid herself with THE SCOUNDREL’S LOVER. This one is fiery hot. I almost expected it to short out my reader. I fell in love with the Flynn family in THE OTHER DUKE, book one in the Notorious Flynns series where we first meet Annabelle but now I’m forever hooked. Marcus and Annabelle are perfection. Their relationship is one of honesty without betraying their feelings for each other. Marcus is so infatuated with Annabelle he borders on stalking. Annabelle wants to refuse her Notorious Flynn blood but in the end, Marcus brings out the real Annabelle and sparks flare into full-fledged fireworks.

Admittedly, if you haven’t read THE OTHER DUKE, book one, I highly recommend you do before reading THE SCOUNDREL’S LOVER because it’s important to meet the characters and get to know the relationships before heading further into this series. There’s a lot going on.

As for THE SCOUNDREL’S LOVER by Jess Michaels, I highly recommend reading this extraordinary and very sexy installment of the Notorious Flynns series. It won’t disappoint, but you might need a splash of cool water to put out the fire it starts. And I can’t wait for Crispin’s story.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Unwrapping a Review of WINGS OF GOLD by Evie Knight as featured in the anthology UNIFORM FETISH + #Giveaway

We do adore our men in uniform, don’t we? Well, I do…I freely admit it, so when Evie Knight told me she was a contributing author to the anthology, UNIFORM FETISH, well, I perked right up. I also agreed to read her story and review it. I’ll be finishing the other nine as well, just not all at once. Yes, there are ten, that’s 10 stories featuring men in uniform.
I received a lovely note from Evie and thought I’d share it with you. She’s such a wonderfully nice person. By the way, she provided a complimentary copy of the anthology for me to read in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.
“Thank you so much, Amy, for hosting me today and letting me share with your readers my new release titled, WINGS OF GOLD, which is part of the Uniform Fetish Anthology. To celebrate the launch of my new release, I have a tour wide giveaway to one lucky commenter. So, let me tell you about WINGS OF GOLD.” - Evie Knight

Sleeping with him is out of the question

Life couldn’t be better for Abby. She’s got a new job,  awesome friends, a nice place. What more could she ask for? A boyfriend? No. She isn’t even looking for one, but she won’t turn down a little bit of fun. Not until she meets Lieutenant O’Brien. The man with the most magnetic eyes and wicked smile she’s ever met. The thing is men in uniform are trouble and good for one thing and one thing only….they break hearts.

He’s a master in seduction

Lieutenant O’Brien is home for his new assignment as a flight instructor. For years, his naval aviator career has been his focus, and he wants it to remain that way. At least Nate thinks so until he meets Abby, the sexy teacher who swears she won’t sleep with him. The problem is: he thrives in challenges and this is one he’ll win.

As Nate puts his slow seduction plan to work, he’s soon reminded of a promise he swore to keep. Seducing Abby is the beginning of the end to his present, and the start to a future he can’t postpone. The trick will be persuading her there’s more to them than lust.

Amy's Review:
Okay, I’d love to tell you all about this delightfully naughty and teasing short story but truly, it’s so short, I’d give it all away if I did. So I’m just going to say…WOW! I wish this was, at the very least, a full novella. I was hooked immediately by the steamy chemistry between Nate and Abby, I wanted him to fall madly in love with her, and she with him, especially since both were so against it from the second they locked gazes from across the room. Evie knows how to put the sizzle in erotic tease and she makes amazing sparks, and then some, in WINGS OF GOLD. I’m wondering if we can get her to expand on this one someday. It’s a story that needs full telling.

The Uniform Fetish anthology is like a box of delicious chocolates - no, not a reference to Forrest Gump, it just fit. Each story, like a piece of chocolate, is a tantalizing treat in its own, but all together makes for a deliciously naughty read. There are ten stories, each in varying lengths but just enough to give you a little sizzle in a break here or there, or a night in reveling in sexy men in uniform, whichever way you want to indulge. I hope you’ll try it out.

Happy Reading Everyone!
