Unwrapping a Review of SLOW HAND, a Hot Cowboy Nights novel by Victoria Vane

Anyone who has been following my reviews for any length of time knows I’m a huge fan of Victoria Vane. Some of her books, I’ve loved more than others, but I read each one with great anticipation of an enjoyable sexy read. Well, my darlings, she has blown me out of the water with the first book in her brand new contemporary series called Hot Cowboy Nights. Hot is an understatement – SLOW HAND by Victoria Vane is hot cowboys and more.

***eARC provided by author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unscripted review

Blurb for SLOW HAND:

In rural Montana...

Wade Knowlton is a hardworking lawyer who's torn between his small-town Montana law practice and a struggling family ranch. He's on the brink of exhaustion from trying to save everybody and everything, when gorgeous Nicole Powell walks into his office. She's a damsel in distress and the breath of fresh air he needs.

Even the lawyers wear boots...

Nicole Powell is a sassy Southern girl who has officially sworn off cowboys after a spate of bad seeds-until her father's death sends her to Montana and into the arms of a man who seems too good to be true. Her instincts tell her to high tail it out of Montana, but she can't resist a cowboy with a slow hand...

*                   *                   *                    *                   *

Nikki Powell does not like to fly – at all – so when she encounters every imaginable thing that can go wrong while traveling from Georgia to Montana, she’s not happy. Then as if things can’t get any worse, the truly worst thing happens. She has no choice but to hitch a ride the last leg of her journey with, not only the man she thought a typical arrogant, womanizing cowboy, but he happens to be the lawyer handling her deceased estranged father’s estate – and he’s gorgeous sexy.

Wade Knowlton is returning home to try to talk his brother into selling the declining family ranch for a huge sum of money when he notices a beautiful damsel in distress who has missed her flight and is crying on the floor. Being the chivalrous guy he sometimes regrets being, he gives up his seat for her and drives the long hours from Denver to Bozeman, Montana. When he receives a frantic call from a woman who claims to have lost her wallet, phone, and who knows what else, but managed to have his phone number, he tells her to wait where she is in Bozeman and he’ll get there as soon as possible. She turns out to be the same damsel in distress from the airport. Life just keeps getting more interesting by the moment for Wade, but he’s not too very sorry he helped the beautiful Nikki – not yet anyway. Never did he think she’d break his heart after he rescued her.

Just when I think Victoria Vane can no longer surprise me with her talent and amazing characters, she does it again. Her sensual romances continue to burn up the pages of every book she conjures. SLOW HAND, the first book in the Hot Cowboy Nights series is hot, hot, hot! Wade Knowlton is the sexiest man to wear cowboy boots and a hat. He also happens to be lawyer who gives new meaning to the word briefs. I was in love with this man before I got a third of the way into the book, and was ready to kick Nikki in her damsel in distress hot ass if she didn’t get him into bed soon.

The banter between these two characters was enough to make me worry about my reader overheating. The secondary characters brought humor, emotion, angst, and reality to the story without overpowering Wade and Nikki’s growing attraction for each other. Wade had his own cheering section, and Nikki was on the right performance track as far as his family and friends were concerned. She had nothing to lose and everything to gain from her visit to Montana yet she was willing to throw it all away because she was afraid to open her heart to falling in love.

SLOW HAND by Victoria Vane is delightful, funny, page turning steamy sexy, and the romance between Wade and Nikki make you wish you could pull Victoria’s characters straight off the page and into real life. I'm beginning to think Victoria could write a phone book and make it sexy. I highly recommend this amazing first book in a brand new contemporary series coming to readers and bookstores this November. I wish it were sooner because you don’t want to miss this one. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Cover Reveal for THE FALLEN ANGELS OF KARNATAKA by Hans M. Hirschi

THE FALLEN ANGELS
OF KARNATAKA

by Hans M. Hirschi

Releasing September 15, 2014

In an isolated mountain town in Norway, Haakon dreams of traveling the world, pursuing adventure, seeing great cities, finding love. His very first trip to London with friends from university offers much promise, yet soon after tragedy strikes. Still young, and mourning the loss of his lover, Haakon is not ready to give up on his dream, so when a rich Englishman offers him the chance to join him on a tour of the world, Haakon takes it, daring to believe that his dream is finally coming true...but at what price?

The Fallen Angels of Karnataka is a novel filled with adventure, life's hard-learned lessons, loss, despicable evil, and finally, love and redemption.

Excerpt:

Cities smell.
Big cities smell a lot. Yes, sometimes the smell is vile. Sometimes they smell ever so sweetly and everything in between. But cities definitely smell.

Towns don’t smell. Neither do villages. Sure, there’s the smell of manure in the countryside, but that is different. We know it’s manure, but the vile smells that hit your nostrils in a city are intertwined with the scent of Chinese or Indian restaurants, the sweet scents from nearby flower shops, and the stench from garbage containers, making for a unique combination.

It was the absence of smells that had first driven Haakon from the small town he grew up in. It had driven him to travel, to discover the world. Not that he had been aware of it. No, of course not. He had not yet caught a whiff of Cairo, nor Shanghai, nor Bangkok for that matter. Nor any of the other places around the world he would visit in the years following that very first flight to London.

But Haakon had known—instinctively known—that there was something missing from his life, and he realized that he had to find it. Had someone told him what he’d find out there, he would’ve judged that person mad. And why not? We greet every day with little or no clue of what might happen, who we might meet or how these people might change our lives. Sometimes they provide a bit of diversion, sometimes they alter the course of our lives forever.

Haakon climbed out of the water he had just been swimming in and took in the scenery. From their house on the southern tip of the island, where two beaches met, he saw the jetty of their private hideaway. The white sand, the tiny waves lapping at the beachfront, and the palm trees. The weather had been stunning these past weeks—no wind, barely a cloud in the sky—only today, clouds had been drifting in from the east, signaling that a storm was approaching.

They inherited the island when Charles passed away a few months earlier. Haakon had always looked forward to visiting Mon Bijou, the small paradise in the Caribbean that Charles bought decades ago, investing a significant part of his family fortune. But as things turned out, Haakon had never been able to make this particular journey while Charles was still alive.

Mahender was nowhere to be found. He had risen before sunrise for his usual morning walk and yoga, and now Haakon couldn’t see him anywhere. No need to worry, he would be back soon. Mahender needed solitude every now and then, and he would no doubt be in his favorite spot, overlooking the ocean on the east side of the island.

As Haakon took in the view, his mind drifted to the memory of how he met Charles, and how he ended up on Mon Bijou with Mahender. They had been here for almost eight weeks now, and had finally decided what to do with the island.

With one final look out across the bay, Haakon returned to the house to start breakfast. Eventually, the smell of freshly-brewed Darjeeling or a hungry stomach would lure Mahender back.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:  Tiffany Snow

I love to write and am thrilled to be a part of the Amazon Montlake family. My debut novel, NO TURNING BACK, is the first book in The Kathleen Turner Series. I write about things I love to read myself - a heroine who could be a neighbor or best friend; two men who each portray their own version of darkness and light, each vying for her affection; and a story that focuses as much on the characters as it does the suspense. NO TURNING BACK, TURN TO ME, TURNING POINT, OUT OF TURN and POINT OF NO RETURN currently comprise The Kathleen Turner Series.  There is also a companion novel to NO TURNING BACK entitled TURN ON A DIME - BLANE'S TURN. TURN ON A DIME - KADE'S TURN releases August 25, 2014.  My new series, The Tangled Ivy Trilogy starts with the release of IN HIS SHADOW, set to release December 16, 2014.

As for me, I've been reading romance novels since I was way too young to read such things. I have an unhealthy obsession for all things Doctor Who, prefer Pepsi to Coke, and Absolut to both. I think men who drink girly cocktails are wusses, have learned never to stop believing in my beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and can recite the entire scripts of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY and APOLLO 13. George Washington is cool, Bon Jovi still rocks the house, and Bruce Willis is the ultimate alpha-male hero. Most of all, romance never, ever gets old.

If you’d like to learn more about Tiffany and her books, please visit her website, and follow her on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads.

Unwrapping a Review of JAKE, debut novel in the Men of Clifton Montana series by Susan Fisher-Davis

I’m very excited to be introducing a new author, Susan Fisher-Davis. Susan’s debut novel, JAKE, releases today, and I know this talented new voice in romance is going to go far with her new Men of Clifton Montana series featuring hot cowboys and romantic adventure. I’m also pleased as punch about this new series because I also happen to be the editor on this project. Biased a bit, but I’m still going to put on my reviewer hat and give you my honest opinion of this debut novel.

Blurb for JAKE:

Jake Stone isn’t happy about Hattie’s granddaughter suddenly appearing to take over her ranch after Hattie’s death, but he knows she’d want him to make her welcome. He just didn’t expect to like the stubborn redhead quite so much.

Becca Daniels has inherited a horse ranch from a grandmother she never knew. To sell it, she has to live on it for six months. Otherwise, it goes up for auction. Now it seems someone else wants it and is trying to run her off.

Now, with her horses stolen, her home invaded, and threats made against her if she doesn’t leave, Becca doesn’t know where to put her trust. What sinister plot is underway to force her hand? Worst of all, could the gorgeous cowboy who’s managed to steal her heart be behind it all?

*                 *                   *                  *                  *

Becca Daniels discovers she had a grandmother she never knew but too late. Learning of her death and that she’s the sole inheritor of Hattie Daniel’s estate in Clifton, Montana, she has no choice but to travel to this out of way place and settle things. She discovers her grandmother has a thriving horse ranch and first thinks to sell it but in order to do so, she must abide by the will and live on it for six months before making a final decision or the ranch goes up for auction. Her life is about to change and unforeseen trouble emerges when she meets a handsome and oh so, sexy cowboy who is more than willing to buy the ranch from her and steal her heart.

Jake Stone isn’t thrilled about Hattie’s city-girl granddaughter coming out of the woodwork to claim what his old friend had spent a lifetime building. He can’t help but wonder why the stranger, who had no interest in her grandmother while she was alive, would not want to let the ranch go to auction rather than live there for six months. Jake admits freely, he is more than willing to take the land off her hands rather than see it go to auction, but Becca is stubborn. He likes that about her. He likes a lot about the feisty redhead who stirs more than a protective instinct in him. When strange things begin to happen around the ranch, and to Becca, he begins to wonder who else might be more than interested in the ranch, or perhaps in Becca.

JAKE, the first book in the Men of Clifton Montana series by Susan Fisher-Davis paints a picture of family, community, and traditions existing in the untamed landscape of Montana as well as treating us to sizzling romance. Susan makes us fall in love with all the men of Clifton, Montana but especially Jake. He’s a big brother, friend, protector, flirt, tease, able to tame the most ornery horse, and it seems, the most stubborn of women.

As I stated above, I’m the editor on this amazing new series so I’m slightly biased to the writing, but even when I read this manuscript for the first time in the first round of editing, I fell in love with Jake. I decided I wanted to step into Becca’s shoes, became best friends with Olivia and Emma, and lusted after the Stone brothers, and the town sheriff. If I truly believed there were men like the ones in Clifton, I’d move to Montana next week.

I highly recommend reading JAKE, book one in the Men of Clifton Montana series by Susan Fisher-Davis to anyone who loves a good romance, with a hint of mystery, fabulous cast of characters, and very sexy cowboys. Yippie Kah Yay!

Happy Reading Everyone!

*               *              *               *               *

EXCERPT:

“Monsieur Mercier,” she whispered. “Monsieur …”

He could see her better now, the shadows outlining her face, her long, lilting hair a fiery corona. She looked impatient, like waiting for him to do something, say something, but at the moment all he could do was watch her—her eyes half-masted, her lips slightly parting as she started to speak. When she didn’t, he was truly disappointed as he wanted to hear her again, if only for the sound of her voice.

Then what did she want?

“Qu’est-ce que tu as dit?” he asked her, wondering what she wanted, turning her hand over to idly feather the inside of her palm. She looked startled, her gaze darting up and around, as if his were a voice coming out of the sky. “Que veux-tu, chère?”

“Toi …” She broke his grasp, looking dead into his eyes. She really was quite pretty, he thought, more than she allowed herself to be, her features trying so hard to be forceful when in fact they were quite delicate. He thought she’d run away when suddenly she leaned in close, his skin pulsing under the convergence of breast and leg, saying, “Je te veux … ”

He couldn’t believe it. Did she say she wanted him? Did she really? He was floored and instantly aroused; each strand of her hair that touched his thighs was a live wire. “Tu me veux?”

“Mais oui,” she purred, coquettishly tilting her head until he could see her, her eyes sleepy and seductive, her lips ripe to be nibbled until they were swollen from kissing. “J'ai tellement envie de toi . . .”

Then she turned, pushing herself up, her hands on either side of his legs, caging him, her face pale yet radiant in the moonlight. He clasped her around the tops of her arms and leveled his gaze with hers, her eyes like liquid emeralds. “T’as les plus beaux yeux que j’ai jamais vus,” he murmured, the simple statement hardly capturing how lovely her eyes actually were. But it made her smile and she tilted her head in assessment, her hand alighting to the top of his knee, insistently pressing down.

Release Day Launch of HARD TO HOLD ON TO, a Hard Ink Novella by Laura Kaye + #Giveaway

HARD TO HOLD ON TO
a Hard Ink Novella
by Laura Kaye

available August 19, 2014 from Avon Impulse

Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Edward "Easy" Cantrell knows better than most the pain of not being able to save those he loves—which is why he is not going to let Jenna Dean out of his sight.  He may have just met her, but Jenna's the first person to make him feel alive since that devastating day in the desert more than a year ago.

Jenna has never met anyone like Easy. She can't describe how he makes her feel--and not just because he saved her life. No, the stirrings inside her reach far beyond gratitude.

As the pair are thrust together while chaos reigns around them, they both know one thing: the things in life most worth having are the hardest to hold on to.

*                  *                  *                   *                   *

EXCERPT:

Easy tugged down the covers and gestured for Jenna to get in. She chose the side that would allow her to lie on the uninjured side of her face.

“After what you’ve been through, I don’t want to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable,” Easy said.

Propping herself on an elbow, Jenna shook her head. “You won’t. You’re the—” She blanched as if she hadn’t meant to say whatever she’d nearly said.

Which made Easy need to know. He crawled on the bed as if lured by the words. “Finish. That. Sentence.”

She eased back onto the pillow, red hair sprawling around her shoulders like silk, and stared up at him. And it took everything Easy had not to settle himself on top of her and tease the words out with his hands and tongue.

“The only one who makes me feel safe," she whispered.

Satisfaction humming through him, Easy turned and stretched out on his back. Because if he kept looking at her while she was looking at him like that, he might not be able to restrain himself from having what he wanted. A taste. A chance.

None of which she was in any shape for. And given the shitstorm in his head, probably neither was he.

“Good. That’s good,” he murmured, blowing out a long breath. Damn, he was tired. Not just because he hadn’t slept much the night before. But because of the size of the load he’d been shouldering for the past twelve-plus months. If he could only figure out how to put it down. He scrubbed his hands over his face, wishing he could shake himself out of this fucking slump.

If Rimes were here, he’d kick Easy’s ass for being such a morose motherfucker.

But he wasn’t here. Which was the damn problem in a nutshell.

He dropped his arms to the bed and peered over at Jenna.

She lay on her side facing him, hand tucked under her chin, not looking the least bit settled or relaxed.

“Whatchu need?”

“You.” She spoke the word without any hesitation, any doubt, any seeming self-consciousness.

“Have me, Jenna. Whatever you want,” he said, his cock stirring no matter how hard he reined himself in.

Holding his gaze, she moved closer until her head rested on his shoulder and her body trapped his arm between them. And, suddenly, she wasn’t fucking close enough.

“Here,” he whispered, lifting his arm and inviting her closer. And damn if his heart didn’t soar when she fitted herself the rest of the way against him, her face against his throat, her breasts against his ribs, her leg curling up onto his thigh.
He wasn’t sure whose sigh was louder. All Easy knew was that this was the first time in more than a year he didn’t feel alone. Wrapping his arm around her, he couldn’t resist squeezing her in just a little closer.

“Thank you,” she whispered, her breath ticklish against his neck.

He laced his fingers between hers where they rested on his chest. “I gotchu. You just close your eyes and know I’m here.”

Unwrapping: Talking About FIFTY SHADES OF GREY Again...Not Only!

This past Wednesday, I reviewed TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP, a Deadly Games Thriller by Lena Diaz as part of a blog tour. Btw, the Giveaway is still happening so if you'd like a shot at winning a copy of this fabulous thriller romance, please click HERE to go there.

I can’t describe how much I enjoyed this book. The story was action-packed, the characters are fully evolved, and the mystery was one which kept me guessing even after I figured out who the killer was – although I had the motive wrong. It got me to thinking about FIFTY SHADES OF GREY by E. L. James being made into a movie. Yes, I'm back there again. I’m old school in that I very seldom have ever said a movie was better than the book. I have my favorites based on books, which I watch repeatedly – such as most of the Austen adaptations.

As many of you already know, I am not a fan of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY. Most likely I will never watch this movie unless there happens to be absolutely nothing else on the boob tube. Although I’m more likely to watch a documentary on oil rigs in the Gulf rather than succumb to the hoopla surrounding a movie based on a book so poorly written it made me roll my eyes on nearly every page. I never could move on to the second or third book because the thought of paying ten bucks more each was just ludicrous. It’s bad enough when I succumbed to my curiosity about the book that I paid out ten bucks I’ll never see again.

But back to TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP by Lena Diaz. This is a book I would love to see made into a movie. In fact, the entire series could make a wonderful film series. I happen to be a huge fan of suspense whether in print or on the big screen, but this book has everything it needs to translate well to the silver screen. I’d much rather see it transformed into film, even though much would probably be lost along the way, than to see entirely too much money spent to bring such a simpering, weak, unimaginative creation as FIFTY SHADES OF GREY to the big screen. But then, that’s just one person’s opinion – mine!

So, I’m curious, if you could nominate a favorite romance novel to be made into a big production film, which would it be?

Happy Reading Everyone!

Btw, if you’re looking for some end-of-summer good reading, do check out TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP by Lena Diaz, and another good one is GODS AND GLADIATORS by Jaye Shields. I highly recommend both!

Review Stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP, a Deadly Games Thriller by Lena Diaz + #Giveaway

Welcome to my Review Stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP, a Deadly Games Thriller by Lena Diaz. As a big fan of this already amazing series, it was a no-brainer for me to join this tour and review this thriller.

***I was offered a galley but purchased the book upon release instead for my own personal reading and I’m sharing my thoughts freely.

Blurb for TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP:

Lena Diaz returns with another sexy, thrilling Deadly Games novel and the darkest question of all: What do you do when your freedom could cost you your life?

Detective Emily O'Malley just stumbled upon a killer's lair—and the remains of a woman he kept locked away for years. But this killer isn't done yet. More women are missing, and all clues point to Devlin Buchanan—the man who seems to know just a little too much. Emily's instincts are rarely wrong, and now they're telling her this sexy, mysterious man is hiding something big …

As a trained assassin for EXIT Inc—a top-secret mercenary group posing as an international tour company—Devlin "Devil" Buchanan isn't afraid to take justice into his own hands. But when the hot new detective on his trail gets too close to the organization and a contract is placed on her life, Devlin does the only thing he can: he turns rogue agent and kidnaps her to save her life.

With EXIT Inc closing in and passions running hot between them, Emily and Devlin must work together to find the missing women and clear both their names before time runs out … and the key to freedom is thrown away.

*               *                *                *                *

Emily O’Malley doesn’t think of herself as the best cop in the department but she is determined to do her best as a detective. When she spots a woman reported missing some time ago in a truck, she follows the suspect to a house off the beaten track. She calls it in and requests backup but when she hears screams, she knows she must act fast or the woman may die before help arrives. The last thing she expects is to find herself locked in a cell with a dead body, and then rescued by another man who may or may not be involved in the abductions. Now she’s caught up in an investigation, which puts her own life on the line and changes her life forever.

Devlin Buchanan just wants to spend some time with his family before he goes on his next mission. When he hears a female cop put out a call for backup on his police scanner, he knows better than to get involved with the police, but can’t leave a damsel in distress. Now everything that can go wrong has and he now finds himself in the middle of a murder/abduction case, and he’s the prime suspect. Not only does he need to protect the company he works for, EXIT Inc., his family, and himself, but now the cop who he can’t seem to stop thinking about is in danger too. To say his world has been turned upside down is an understatement.

Lena Diaz writes amazing, page turning, edge of the seat suspense blended with just the right amount of romance filled angst and attraction to keep any reader thoroughly content but in TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP, I think she takes us to a whole new place.

TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP by Lena Diaz is exciting from page one, captivating in how deeply developed the storyline is, and we can’t help but fall for the hero bad boy, Devlin Buchanan. She puts us knee deep into the action right from the start and I wouldn’t want it any other way. This is a keep-you-up-reading-way-past-your-bedtime good read. I have to admit to reading until I actually dropped my reader because I couldn’t keep my eyes open another moment, that is until I was so close to the end I could taste it, and then I pulled a I’m-going-to-read-till-I-finish night. I finally closed down my reader at 4 AM. Of course, that was after I read the teaser from Lena’s next series starting with EXIT STRATEGY, where - There’s more to EXIT Inc. than meets the eye… I can’t wait!!

I highly recommend TAKE THE KEY AND LOCK HER UP by Lena Diaz if you love a fast-paced, action-packed thriller, which guarantees to keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages all while trying to figure out whodunit. By the way, I figured out who the killer was, but Lena caught me on the motive. Good one, Lena. There’s nothing better than a thriller that really does keep you guessing. Loved it!

Happy Reading Everyone! Stick around for a chance to win this amazing book!
