Unwrapping a Review of THE WITCH OF CLAN SINCLAIR, a Clan Sinclair novel by Karen Ranney

Not too long ago, I read and reviewed THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR, book one in the Clan Sinclair series by Karen Ranney. Although my review wasn’t as favorable as some may have liked it to be, it didn’t keep me from moving on to the next book in the series, THE WITCH OF CLAN SINCLAIR, and oh, my goodness, am I glad it didn’t. And how about that cover - it's so gorgeous!

***Print copy received as part of a giveaway presented by the author and I am happily sharing my honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for THE WITCH OF CLAN SINCLAIR:

The next sizzling romance in New York Times bestselling author Karen Ranney's Clan Sinclair series...

Logan Harrison is looking for a wife. As the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, he needs a conventional and diplomatic woman who will stand by his side and help further his political ambitions. He most certainly does not need Mairi Sinclair, the fiery, passionate, fiercely beautiful woman who tries to thwart him at every turn. But if she's so wrong for him, why can't he stop kissing her? He is completely bewitched.

Mairi Sinclair has never met anyone like Logan Harrison, the perfect example of everything she finds wrong with the world. He's also incredibly handsome, immensely popular, and impossible to resist. His kisses inflame her and awaken a passion she can barely control.

Can two people who are at such odds admit to a love that would bind them together for life?

*               *               *              *              *

Mairi Sinclair is a woman before her time. She’s working in a man’s world in a man’s job and must hide behind her brother’s name in order to do so, but the success or failure of the Edinburgh Gazette is hers, and hers alone. When confronted with a man’s world reaction to wishing to enter a man’s domain to hear an author speak, her reaction is one which starts something she never expected – a revolution of change and a change of heart about love.

Logan Harrison has a high respect for society, and for women, but everything he believed he knew about women flies out the window when he encounters the stubborn and incorrigible, Mairi Sinclair. Planning a continuing future career in politics, as the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Logan believes he must find the perfect politician’s wife but when his attraction to the least likely candidate keeps him entangled, he knows his heart must lead the way if he can convince her of the same.

THE WITCH OF CLAN SINCLAIR by Karen Ranney had me hooked from the first pages and kept me turning the pages as these two incredible characters both denied and pursued one another, and their uncontrollable attraction to each other. I loved the strength and passion of Mairi Sinclair, and the incredible gentleness of this amazing man, Logan Harrison, who commanded respect and wielded power effortless. Karen created a story which, while it centered on Mairi and Logan’s relationship, like the spokes of a wheel, the secondary characters had their own trials and tribulations, which gave the story depth and humility. When trouble ensues, it’s not just one who siphons out the culprit, or culprits but instead, it’s as an extension of one that the many discover the truth. The cast of THE WITCH OF CLAN SINCLAIR make this story rich, full, complete, and allow a very romantic happily-ever-after for Mairi and Logan.

I highly recommend THE WITCH OF CLAN SINCLAIR, book two of the Clan Sinclair series by Karen Ranney. If you didn’t read the first book, it’s okay, this one works well as a stand-alone but if you truly want to know the characters as a whole, and understand the dynamics of the many, it will make the reading of this one so much better. THE WITCH OF CLAN SINCLAIR will entertain, inspire, outrage, and leave you feeling so contented and happy for Mairi and Logan, you’ll want the story to continue long after it’s finished.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for SOMETHING SWEETER by Candis Terry + #Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the Tasty Virtual Book Tour for SOMETHING SWEETER, book three in the Sweet, Texas series by Candis Terry. Volunteering to read and review any book by Candis is certainly a treat this reviewer never wishes to pass up.

***eARC provided by publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for SOMETHING SWEETER:

The men in Texas are hard to resist . . . Seattle event planner Allison Lane is an expert at delivering the perfect wedding—even if she might not exactly believe in the whole "'til death do us part" thing. When her father decides to tie the knot with a woman he barely knows, Allison heads to Sweet, Texas, to make sure his new honey is the real deal. What she didn't expect to find at the local honky-tonk was a sexy Southern man as bent on charming her pants off as he is on blowing her "true love doesn't exist" theory all to hell. And they always promise . . .

Veterinarian, former Marine, and Sweet's favorite playboy Jesse Wilder takes one look at Allison and knows she's a handful of trouble he can't deny. But even after a sizzling kiss and obvious mutual attraction, it seems Allison has no such problem. When Jesse uncovers her sweet side, can he crush his playboy image, melt her cynical heart, and change her mind about taking a trip down the aisle?

*             *              *              *             *

Allison Lane isn’t very happy about having to travel to some little town in Texas but here she is and she’s determined to discover how some woman named Jana Wilder has coerced her father into deciding to get married when he’s only known Jana a short while. Even though she’s planned her share of weddings as an event planner, Allison hasn’t any real faith in marriage unless it’s one like her sister has. So when a player cowboy, she meets in a honky-tonk who also turns out to be the son of the woman her father plans to marry comes on strong, her arguments about true love existing come screaming to the forefront.

Jesse Wilder has a reputation as a playboy with a different woman in his bed nearly every night. None of it’s true though but he allows everyone in town to believe the nonsense because it allows him to stay single while he makes sure everyone else finds their happiness. He carries a deep reason for doing so but intends to see it through even when a beautiful woman catches his eye, full attention, and slowly burrows into his heart leading him to wonder if by showing her that true love can exist, he’s opening himself up to falling in love with her. There’s a side of Allison that leads him to believe she doesn’t believe in love not because she’s a true cynic but she’s afraid of opening up to the possibility. Jesse is the man to change her mind but first he’s going to have to convince her he’s not really a playboy cowboy.

SOMETHING SWEETER by Candis Terry is an endeavor to convince a woman who doesn’t believe in love that true love can exist even when everything seems against it. I’m not one who usually quotes a book in a review but there’s one time when Jesse talks about love that just hit home for me.

“Have you ever been in love, Allison?” He leaned in and draped his arm along the back of her chair. “I’m not talking about a crush or infatuation. I’m talking about where you’d do anything for someone. Can’t stop thinking about them. Be there if they were sick or just needed a shoulder to lean on. Someone you wanted to wake up to every single day and couldn’t wait until you saw them again at night. Someone who truly made you happy and magnified the good in you. Someone who made you feel like you’re everything you’ve ever wanted to be.” – SOMETHING SWEETER

That’s truly being in love.

Every time Candis Terry conjures up a new hero, especially a Wilder man, I fall in love all over again. Thankfully, each of the brothers has something about him that distinguishes him from the next and allows me to remain in love with each one. Reno captured my heart with his past, his pain, and fears. Jackson, the sexiest and most stubborn pain in the behind of all heroes, still made me fall in love with him because, well, he’s Jackson. Now comes Jesse, former marine, loyal loving brother and son, the most caring vet ever to grace the pages of a book, and so very sexy that I wanted to crawl into the book, tell Allison if she wasn’t going to take him seriously then hit the road and make room for me. Jesse has the biggest heart, the most generous nature, and he’s a natural flirt, which I adore. Allison is someone I could easily be friends with and couldn’t ask for a more perfect partner for Jesse, or better addition to the wonderful Wilder family.

As usual, the secondary characters play a huge role in SOMETHING SWEETER by Candis Terry. From the antics of the local town folk to the most amazing and romantic wedding ever, it’s always such a pleasure to visit Sweet, Texas. My only complaint was that I did feel the ending felt a little rushed. I would like to have seen just a bit more teasing on Jesse’s part, and groveling on Allison’s part. You’ll have to read this amazing story to find out what happens but I’m so completely addicted to Sweet that I can actually say, never has a sweet tooth felt so good.

I don’t just highly recommend reading SOMETHING SWEETER by Candis Terry, I say - read this one, and all the others of the series, or you’re missing out on the most amazing getaways to someplace sweet and romantic ever.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Unwrapping a Review of BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION, a Pleasure Wars novel by Jess Michaels

Already a huge fan of Jess Michaels, it wasn’t difficult to fall in love with the characters she conjured for the Pleasure Wars series. After we got Liam and Violet’s story in BEAUTY AND THE EARL, I thought the series was at an end but no, we’re gifted with the story from Olivia and Malcom’s side in BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION. So very worthwhile and besides, it keeps this amazing series going just a little longer.

***eARC provided by author in exchange for an honest and unscripted review

Blurb for BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION:

Can true love begin with a lie?

It has been a particularly trying day for Olivia Cranfield. Despite her impeccable manners, stylish clothing and posh accent, another protector has detected her lowborn status and rejected her out of hand.

When fellow courtesan Violet invites her to come to Bath to help with the wicked seduction of the scarred, reclusive Earl of Windbury, Olivia jumps at the offer, eager for some excitement and a change of scenery.

The moment Malcolm Graham lays eyes on the delectable woman lurking in the bathhouse alley, he knows she’s a decoy to keep him busy while her friend seduces the earl inside. For a moment, he allows her to play her game…but one touch, and all he can think about is ending the two years of self-denial he’s endured in the name of friendship.

Instant attraction quickly turns into a decidedly erotic affair that makes Olivia question all she’s ever known about passion. But when the truth behind Violet’s assignment comes to light, betrayal threatens to bring everything they’ve built crashing down around Olivia’s broken heart.

Warning: This book contains a lady lying for a good cause, a gentleman as loyal to his friends as he is passionate in the bedchamber, and a steamy affair that will change them both forever.

*            *             *             *             *

Olivia Cranfield accompanies her best friend to Bath when Violet accepts the assignment of getting close to and seducing the Earl of Windbury. Wanting to help in any way possible, Olivia agrees to act as a distraction when Violet needs to get past the large man watching the entrance to the private bath where the Earl is trying to relax undisturbed. Disturbing the Earl is the last thing in Violet’s mind but without Olivia’s assistance, she’ll surely not gain entrance.

Malcolm Graham isn’t a fool and he’s fully aware that while the lovely and desirable Olivia is distracting him, her eager friend is inside the baths entertaining his old friend who had become entirely too curmudgeonly lately and would surely benefit from the delights the beauty might bestow on him. Meanwhile, his own attentions are fully held by the lovely woman he’d like very much to get to know better.

When Olivia accompanies Violet to stay at the Earl’s estate, Malcolm and Olivia get to know each other much better. There attraction to each other is fast, thrilling, and very passionate. Both begin to wonder if there is something more to life than the path each has accepted as their place in life. Each begins to question whether two people from such different worlds can come together and build a life together. But when the truth comes out as to the reason for Violet being with the Earl and the part Olivia played in the deception, everything falls apart leaving broken hearts in the wake.

Jess Michaels writes such amazing characters they easily become like old friends to us by the end of her series making it that much harder to say good-bye but in giving us Olivia and Malcolm’s story, even though it’s simply the same story from another side, we get the full story of the amazing cast of the Pleasure Wars series.

BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION, book four in the Pleasure Wars series by Jess Michaels is as endearing, enlightening, and passionate as its predecessor, BEAUTY AND THE EARL, but this one has our hero and heroine battling their individual loyalties to dear friends when telling the truth threatens to destroy a blossoming love. Jess always manages to pull at our heartstrings with such finesse that we forgive her in the end when everyone gets their happily-ever-after.

I highly recommend BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION by Jess Michaels to anyone who loves a well-written, heartwarming, romance filled with mischief, passion, and containing enough angst to keep us on the edge worrying if there will truly be an HEA for Olivia and Malcolm. If you haven’t read this amazing Pleasure Wars series, I truly recommend that you do and start at the beginning with TAKEN BY THE DUKE, you’ll be hooked and reading straight through until you gain your closure as I did with BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Excerpt from SLOW HAND, book one of the Hot Cowboy Nights series, coming November 4, 2015:

He went to work on his shirt buttons. His collar was soon wide open revealing a generous show of muscular chest that make her hands itch to rip it off him. She diverted her gaze and curled her itchy hands by her sides.
“Have no fear, cowboy,” Nikki replied in a tone meant to disguise the warm flush that had come over her. “I corralled all my wild impulses long ago.”
“Did you, now?” He still stood in doorway, head cocked. “Somehow, I think you may have missed a few strays.”
“Maybe I need to make myself clearer. I have an aversion to cocky cowboys.”
Just keep telling yourself that, Nikki. Maybe if you repeat it often enough it’ll become true.
“Is that so?” His brows flew upward. “I can’t say I ever met a woman with an actual aversion to me.”
“Don’t take it personally. It’s nothing against you in particular, but to your type.”
“And what do you think you know about my type?”
“Since I don’t have a pole handy, enough to keep you at arms-length. Besides that, this whole line of conversation is entirely inappropriate in light of professional ethics, don’t you think? You are my attorney, after all.”
“Well, darlin’,” he scratched his unshaven jaw, “there’s a little hitch to that.”
“What do you mean? You said you’d help me.”
“And I will, but you can’t engage my professional services until I know who you are.”
“I’ve told you who I am!” she insisted.
“Sweetheart, I’m a lawyer, and according to the law, your claim don’t weigh without authentication.”
“Authentication?”
“Proof.”
“So what are you saying? That you don’t believe me?”
“I’m not saying that at all. Only that our professional relationship will commence once you get your I.D. In the interim,” His gaze slid over her in a way that threatened to melt her insides, “you’d best find yourself a nice, long, sturdy pole.” **** SLOW HAND by Victoria Vane

Special Promo for INTOXICATED, a Billionaire Bachelors Club Novella by Monica Murphy

INTOXICATED
A Billionaire Bachelors Club Novella
By Monica Murphy

A wedding; a baby; a knock-down, drag-out lover’s spat;
AND a missing matron of honor?
In short, the conclusion to Monica Murphy’s
“Billionaire Bachelors Club” series is…
THE EPILOGUE TO END ALL EPILOGUES!

On sale now from Avon Impulse and only 99¢

New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy wraps up her sexy Billionaire Bachelors Club series with a wedding to remember. But this time, there is a noticeable lack of bachelors…

It's Gage and Marina's wedding day, but wedded bliss seems a long way off: Ivy's just gone into labor, Marina's missing her matron of honor, and Bryn's giving Matt the silent treatment.

It's up to Archer, Gage, and Matt to make sure this day goes off without a hitch. But between brides and babies, there's the not-so-little issue of the million-dollar bet to attend to. If only they can figure out who won … and who's paying up. Is everyone a winner? Or will someone leave broke, and brokenhearted?

*                 *                *                *                *

An epic billion-dollar bet was placed. Stakes were raised. Now, three favorite bad boy billionaire bachelors are bachelors no more. But who really won?

Monica Murphy has a gift for combining raw emotion with steamy sensuality; her talent for balancing matters of the head and the heart make her stories sparkle like no others. She’s rocketed onto multiple bestseller lists and earned herself a devoted fan following as a result. Having already seen substantial success with her self-published New Adult novels (One Week Girlfriend and Second Chance Boyfriend hit both the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists repeatedly), Monica bridged the gap between genres, combining contemporary romance and the hot New Adult trend with her three-book “Billionaire Bachelors Club” series (Crave, Torn, and Savor). It would be an understatement to say that fans reacted favorably; legions of readers fell in love with one (or all) of the edgy billionaire bachelors, and dubbed them their new “Book Boyfriends.”

When the series came to what Monica and her editor had expected to be the end, readers demanded that the Billionaires receive that quintessential classic of romance, the epilogue—and that the larger-than-life bet that began this incredible series finally be settled. Not one to disappoint her readers, Monica stepped up to the plate, and wrote “Intoxicated”—the final chapter in her Billionaire Bachelors Club series, and the happily-ever-after all her characters (and readers!) deserve! “Intoxicated” is now available wherever e-books are sold.

EXCERPT:  I love this!!

I’m going to have a baby,” Ivy declares as she stops directly in front of me. Well, her belly stopped directly in front of me, the rest of her soon follows.

Yes, indeed, my wife is definitely going to have a baby. Soon.

I’m getting ready—staring at the mirror as I mess with my tie, making sure it’s perfect—when she approaches me. I shoot her a grin, feeling good, feeling on top of my game. Life couldn’t get any better, you know? We’re celebrating today and with good reason.

“I know, sexy mama.” I turn away from the mirror and wink at her. “Trust me, I haven’t forgotten that I’m the one who knocked you up.”

She stares at me, no reaction to my wink or my words. She usually slaps my ass and kisses me. Says something sarcastic at the very least. But I’m getting nothing. And it’s kind of disconcerting. “Archer. I’m dead serious. I’m going to have the baby.”

“I know, babe. And I can’t freaking wait.” I study her, noticing that she looks a little pale and her pupils are dilated. Hmm. “You feeling okay?”

Rolling her eyes, she rests her hand on top of her protruding stomach, rubbing it absently. Then not so absently. As in, she’s clutching her belly like she’s in pain. “I’m in—” She sucks in a harsh breath, holding it for a few seconds. “—labor, damn it.”

Unwrapping a Review of THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR by Karen Ranney

Always a fan of Karen Ranney’s historical romances, I was eager to experience her newest series, The Clan Sinclair series, starting with THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR. With a title like that, it could only mean an adventure featuring a sexy Scot. Right? Oh yeah!

***Purchased for my personal reading but I’m sharing my thoughts with you in an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR:

For Virginia Traylor, Countess of Barrett, marriage was merely the vehicle to buy her father a title. Widowhood, however, brings a host of problems. For her husband deliberately spent the money intended for Virginia and her in-laws, leaving them penniless—unless she produces an heir. Desperate and confused, Virginia embarks on a fateful journey that brings her to the doorstep of the only man she's ever loved...

He's known as The Devil, but Macrath Sinclair doesn't care. He moved to a tiny Scottish village in hopes of continuing his work as an inventor and starting a family of his own. He bought the house; he chose the woman. Unfortunately, Virginia didn't choose him. Macrath knows he should turn her away now, but she needs him, and he wants her more than ever. Whatever game Virginia's playing, Macrath intends to win—one wickedly seductive deed at a time...

*               *               *               *               *

When her husband dies without an heir, Virginia Traylor, Countess of Barrett finds herself in dire circumstances since the estate will pass to a cousin unless she can produce a son before time makes it impossible. Whereas she has options, in desperation, she turns to the man she loved and hoped to marry before her father forced her into a failed marriage with the Earl – the self-made, very handsome and very wealthy Macrath Sinclair.

Still in love with Macrath, and knowing he is still in love with her, Virginia seduces him and becomes pregnant. She then passes the child off as her dead husband's and keeps the truth from Macrath. When he discovers the truth upon visiting Virginia in London where she’s fallen ill, Macrath steals the baby away back to his home in Scotland. Virginia follows Macrath and desperately tries to convince him to relinquish her son. More truths are exposed when her husband’s servant, Paul, follows her to Scotland. As lies are exposed, trouble ensues, and soon Macrath is fighting to protect Virginia and his son before a murderer can take them both from him.

It took me a while to get hooked by THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR by Karen Ranney, mainly because I had trouble keeping things straight between the past and present entries, but I’m not one to give up on a book so I kept with it, and I am very glad that I did. Once the story began to unfold, and the lies began to untangle, this second-chance romance between Macrath and Virginia blossomed into a tale that tugged at my heartstrings. I began to see Virginia as a woman with a goal and a formidable love for her child as well as the man she truly desired, rather than the conniving woman she started out as, and the one who threatened to destroy Macrath’s heart.

Karen Ranney always writes complex characters and storylines but this one had a few more twists and turns than usual, which kept me intrigued. I’m not going to say anything further for fear I may give away spoilers, which are better left discovered by you. I am going to recommend that if you enjoy a formidable hero, a conniving heroine, and a treacherous interloper who only wants what he wants without accepting the consequences, THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR by Karen Ranney is one that will keep you intrigued – well, once you get into it, that is. But trust me, your patience will pay off.

Happy Reading Everyone!

But the truth is far more shocking-in London’s darkest corners, she is Chase, the mysterious, unknown founder of the city’s most legendary gaming hell. For years, her double identity has gone undiscovered...until now.

Brilliant, driven, handsome-as-sin Duncan West is intrigued by the beautiful, ruined woman who is somehow connected to a world of darkness and sin. He knows she is more than she seems and he vows to uncover all of Georgiana’s secrets, laying bare her past, threatening her present, and risking all she holds dear...including her heart.

Behind the Scenes Quotes:

“I’ve always loved cross-dressing heroines – the trope is probably my most favorite of all the romance tropes, so when I wrote Chase, I wanted to play with the cross-dressing heroine idea. She doesn’t just dress in trousers – she’s also built a persona to match. She's a pre-Victorian Wizard of Oz, so to speak, thought to be a man, but one who has never been seen in public, and about whom very few people know the truth…namely, that he’s a she.”
          --Sarah MacLean

“Seeing a woman in pants has not been shocking for about a century.
But when one remembers the historical context of Regency England it is extraordinary. I hope this cover attracts readers who are looking for something different, because Sarah is blazing her own path in historical romance.“
--Carrie Feron, Executive Editor

“It was a fabulous challenge."
